Program
Ansley Watkins, General Manager for Allison Creek Farm Trailer Services, provided Kel-Mac members with an overview of a horse trailer safety check by taking us into the shop area for demonstration purposes. She said that during the annual exam, wheels are pulled to examine break components, and tires are checked for suitability, pressure, and wear. Trailer frames are checked for rust and delamination where steel and aluminum components meet. Roof seals, floor integrity, lights and couplings are also important things to check to keep the trailer safe for hauling purposes. She provided attended attendees with a check list, and a coupon for services.

Trail Updates by Jeanne Barsanti
Heritage Park
On Monday, April 22, Dayle and Wendell Faulkner removed a large tangle of trees that had landed length wise down the trail. This was a huge job that took several hours. They also removed several smaller trees so that the trails would be clear for the Meet and Greet. Big thanks to both of them.
Lisa Williamson, Lori Williams, Dayle, and I also clipped the trails the week before the Meet and Greet.
The Parks Department replaced boards on 2 of the bridges on Thursday, April 25 so the bridges would also be ready for the Meet and Greet.
The next task at Heritage will be to put up the new signs that the Parks Department purchased, in part with Kel-Mac donated funds. The horse shows really help with keeping trails maintained and marked.
Please remember that it takes volunteers to maintain the trails. The Parks Departments don’t have enough staff to accomplish all that needs to be done. Do thank them for all they do, and for providing the arena at no charge to Kel-Mac due to the volunteer works horse folks do at Heritage.
Hard Labor Creek State Park
The Park is working on re-establishing the culvert crossings on the blue trail. The section of blue trail between miles 13 and 15 (between the yellow and red loops) is still closed as is the initial creek crossing, but detours down Camp Rutledge Road are available and marked. The red loop is open, and you can ride the orange loop as long as you come back the same way as you go in. The back trail across Fambrough Bridge Rd is open, but the big creek crossing is badly eroded, and the creek has been deep so best avoided using the white trail. We did do a reroute along the steep hill near the swamp so this section is improved. The green trail is open.
We have been clipping as we ride to keep the trail corridor clear. Everyone can assist with this. Everything grows quickly in Georgia at this time of year!
If you see a problem while riding at HLC, please call the office to report it. They now own a Polaris and can get out on the trail to remove trees and examine problems.
